Luke 6:6-11
On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him. But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up and stand before us." And he rose and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" Looking around at them all, he then said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored. But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who mourn the lives lost in the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01.
As I drove around today, I thought about the events that happened 5 years ago today. I thought about what must have been the intentions of the terrorists. Their goal was to "destroy life" as a means to get their point across.
Rather than looking at their own hearts, the scribes and Pharisees would rather kill Jesus Christ than "rend" their hearts. They were more interested in saving their own lives at the expense of Jesus' life.
As I drove around today, I thought about our country 5 years later. I drove around and I thought about how it is still legal to kill a child in the mother's womb. I thought about Terri Schiavo and the gross injustice done to her in her last days of starvation and dehydration. I thought about it and I thought about we need to a better job in our country at "saving" life versus "destroying" life.
As I read through today's reading, I thought about how Christ gave His life so that we may have life and I am thankful. He lived out His own words today, "is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?"
On the anniversary of the day that forever changed the world, let us recommit ourselves to saving life versus destroying it. Take care and God Bless.
