Feast of the Holy Innocents, Martyrs |
Matthew 2:13-18
When the magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him." Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, Out of Egypt I called my son.
When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi. Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an end to abortion.
"It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish." - Mother Teresa
This quote is on the back of my girlfriend's car. I've been in the car as people walk by. Many people stop to read the bumper sticker, and after reading the bumper sticker, they walk away shaking their heads. I often wonder why they go away shaking their heads because to me it makes all the sense in the world.
Maybe people think that Mother Teresa should stay out of politics and just stick to serving the poor. "Hey, Mother Teresa, you do a lot of good things for the poor, but stay out of the my business." Somehow people like to think that about all Christians... "I don't care what you do, as long as you stay out of my business." Somehow, though, I don't think that we're called to just turn the other way when there is injustice involved. We are all called to do our part in defending the sanctity of life. Mother Teresa was not pro-poverty. Mother Teresa was pro-life, and you can see it in the way she ministered to the poor. Jesus is pro-life, and you can see it in the way He came to earth and died on cross for your life and for mine. Jesus is pro-life. Take care and God Bless.
