Thursday, Week 1 of Advent
Matthew 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is in thanksgiving for the blessings in your life.

Somehow, when I look at my life, I want to think that I understand this reading. After all, the concept it simple.

Sin, however, takes what should be simple and makes things very complex. I guess it's because there are times in my life when I do not feel like I am standing on solid ground. It is through these times that I am made aware I still have a long way to go in my journey towards true obedience to Him.

If being obedient to God's will is like being on solid rock, then all other desires of our hearts must be when we have built our homes on sand. This is the result of our own sinfulness. Yet, our weakness should draw us closer to Our God as we realize that the more we choose our own will, the longer we will remain unsatisfied and discontent.

I want to think that I understand today's reading. Maybe I do, but I also know that it is only through prayer, the scriptures, the sacraments and community that I will truly be able to accept today's reading. Take care and God Bless.
