Matthew 6: 7-15
Jesus said to his disciples: "In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
"This is how you are to pray:
'Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.'
"If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the safety of those who are unemployed and for those who are traveling this weekend.
I was thinking about an approach to this morning's reflection.
"The Our Father: The Center of Our Faith"
"The Our Father: Revealing the Nature of God"
"The Our Father: The Real Essence of Our Prayers"
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that The Our Father is not great because of the many words that can be written about it. The Our Father is great because of it's simplicity in allowing us to pray to God in a way fitting of God.
We can pray the Our Father in time of distress. We can pray the Our Father in a time of thanksgiving. We can pray the Our Father in times of questioning. We can pray the Our Father in times of discernment. The Our Father helps us remember to seek God's will. The Our Father helps us remember to place our hope in Him. The Our Father helps us remember how we are to love our neighbor. The Our Father helps us remember that we are His.
Above all, the Our Father, in its beauty and simplicity, helps us to remember that He is God and we are His children. May you always find hope in Him. Take care and God Bless.
