Luke 10: 1-12

Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.' If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, 'The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.' Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say, 'The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.' Yet know this: the Kingdom of God is at hand. I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are discerning their vocation.

What if we have already been sent? After all, at the end of the Mass, we are told, "let us go forth in peace to love and serve The Lord." Are we living as if we have been sent by Christ?

I'm sure the last thing on people's minds is "the Kingdom of God is at hand." Rather, I think that what is on the minds of people right now is, "how am I going to pay the bills?" ... "what is happening to our economy?" ... "how am I going to raise this child?" ... We are sent to them because the Kingdom of God is at hand, and they need to know.

I need to know this as well. I wonder what the disciples were thinking when God sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God is at hand without anything. They were leaving their families and everything they thought they knew. I am uncertain about many things in my life at this time, and everything I fear weighs down on my heart. Yet, I know that Christ speaks the truth, and therefore it is good to believe and embrace that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Think of the freedom we can have knowing that it is God's Kingdom that we are working in. The hardships we bear are for the Kingdom of God. The material blessings we have been given are put in their proper place and context.

It is hard not to get down in this world. For me, it is hard to rejoice when someone refuses to the let me in on the freeway after I had my turn signal on for a few seconds. It is hard not to get prideful when you do something that is successful. Yet, in all things, we have already been sent to proclaim that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Let us do so with great joy.

Take care and God Bless.
