John 1:45-51

Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth." But Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him." Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this." And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for Linda Zerangue and Alfonso Castillo Sr., both who are suffering from cancer at this time, and also for those who are traveling.

Today is the Feast of St. Bartholomew, otherwise known as Nathanael.

Pride. I've been reading through today's reading over and over again and all I can think of is how at the beginning of today's reading St. Bartholomew was a pretty proud guy (alluded from his statement on "good things" from Nazareth) and at the end of today's reading, he was humbled.

Along with that, I looked at how Christ reacted to Nathanael's humility. It's a good thing that I'm not Christ because my response probably would have had a touch of pride right back at him. Instead, though, Christ sticks to being merciful and proclaiming The Truth. That's what we should be like as we live out our calling to be Christ's light in this world. Take care and God Bless.
