Luke 14:25-33
Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, "If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, 'This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.' Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the repose of hte soul of John Finley Scott and for those who mourn his loss.
The more I read through pro-life news, the more saddened I get. Saddened then angry. Is the money an abortion doctor makes worth killing innocent lives? What about the mothers? What lies have they fallen for that brought them there?
What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ?
There's a man at the Planned Parenthood who comes out whenever a group gathers to pray in front of the abortion mill. He wears shiny sunglasses and he takes pictures of the people who are praying. One Good Friday, while praying the Rosary with the group gathered there, he stood 20 feet in front of us. Until I read today's reading, I never considered his soul. All I was concerned with was I was pro-life and he worked at abortion mill.
I held on so much to moral differences that I forgot that he is Our Lord's child too. I wasn't ready to renounce the ideal that I held on to.
It is truly a shame that abortion is legal, and we must continue to pray for an end to abortion and the use of contraception. Along with this, let us pray for the souls of those who perform abortions, that they may learn to respect life. If they are driven to continue performing abortions for financial reasons, let us pray that they may be able to renounce that for the sake of defending the lives Our Loving Father has created.
Take care and God Bless.
