John 16: 12-15

Jesus said to his disciples: "I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are without shelter as the burning heat of summer approaches.

How can The Truth be denied? By our fears.

Imagine that you are a disciple. You have seen many miracles performed by Christ. You hid while He was persecuted. You rejoiced when He was risen from the dead. Now, Christ is telling you that He must go back to heaven.

I wonder if there was a certain element of fear in the disciples when Jesus said this to them. Jesus quickly addresses their fears with the words of Truth (and that's why He's the Prince of Peace). In so many words, He tells the disciples, "Don't worry."

Yet, in our lives, it's so hard not to worry. We are bombarded with tons of possibilities that consume us with worry. We are suffocated by our weaknesses in just trying to "make it through the day." We are handcuffed by the pains of our past. Christ has sent us the Holy Spirit that will guide us past our fears and into The Truth. We have no reason to fear; we only have reason to surrender.

Yesterday, a friend of mine sent me a quick note regarding a situation she's going through: the only option I have is to trust in God. Indeed, this is our only option. Christ does not want us to live in the slavery our our fears. Christ wants us to live in the freedom of our submission to God's will (sounds like a paradox). Anything less is living in fear. We have been sent the Holy Spirit so let us live in this freedom. Take care and God Bless.
