Mark 12:18-27
Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone's brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants. So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise. And the seven left no descendants. Last of all the woman also died. At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her." Jesus said to them, "Are you not misled because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.
The resurrection of the dead is something that has split the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and in today's reading, the Sadducees uses this debate to trick Jesus once again.
Through Christ, all things are fulfilled, and the doubts of those who would question Jesus would find that out as Christ answers their deceitful question with The Truth. It is in Jesus response that we begin to understand that we are not made for each other as mean unto each other. We are all made for God, where the things of this earth will be revealed. Those who are married here on earth are sacraments for their spouse revealing how Christ is united with the Church, and how we will ultimately be united with Christ in heaven.
God gives us so many wonderful gifts here on this earth, and each of these gifts are not a means unto itself and means to find out who we are, and we are all children of God. We were not made for this earth; we were made for heaven, and all our gifts help us grow to desire heaven more.
Let's not be like the Sadducees, who do not believe in the resurrection. Those who believe in nothing beyond this life will never begin to understand the pure of joy in knowing that we were made for God, united with Him in heaven. I believe that Christ is risen from the dead, and I believe that He wants me to be there with Him. I believe that He wants you there too. Take care and God Bless.
