Mark 6:1-6
Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?"
And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house." So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for world leaders, that they make decisions that are just in regards to the dignity of every human.
Satan is often refered to as "the king of lies". I have a new name for him today: the wellspring of excuses.
I can see his handiwork in my own life:
"I don't have time to pray this morning... I don't have enough money to give for my full tithe... I'm acting this way because I have a lot on my mind..."
Yesterday, I had the full flood of excuses flowing trying to keep me from going to mass:
"You don't have time to get there... There's too much traffic and you don't have that much time... Maybe you should go and check out the pawn shop to see if you can find a good deal on a guitar..."
I wonder if Christ is amazed at the lack of my faith at times. After all the miracles I've seen and the grace I've received, you'd think that I would have enough to look in the face of excuses and see them for the lies that they are.
I'm sure St. Peter knows the same feeling. I pray we have the faith to faithfullly follow and the wisdom to recognize the "king of lies". Take care and God Bless.
