Feast of St. Mark |
Mark 16: 15-20
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
Then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those who are suffering with cancer.
I remember a handful of basketball games when my playing was inspired. One time I remember was when I was playing a game and my assignment was to guard and be guarded by a very athletic 6'5" guy. I remember being a little intimidated, but mostly what I remember was how I played a very good game while doing moves I probably can't replicate now.
I rarely play basketball nowadays, and as one would suspect, I don't have those games in which I play inspired. It was in playing the games that I was able to have little glimpses of inspiration. It is the same when it comes to other endeavors.
Along with those few inspired games came a lot of average games. Average games never deterred me from playing; I just liked playing the game.
It reminds me of how Christ commissions us to "go into the world and proclaim the Gospel ... " I can't imagine that the Apostles went out and preached the Gospel because they thought they'd excel at it. Rather, I see them doing it because Christ gave them this responsibility. I see them doing it, and because they did it, "the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs." The Gospel message went forth because they showed up.
The NBA used the campaign "Where Amazing Happens" to help promote the league. We don't need a slogan; going forth and preaching the Gospel everywhere (even when nobody is looking) is when amazing happens.
Take care and God Bless.
