Luke 5:33-39
The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, "The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink." Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days." And he also told them a parable. "No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak. Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.'"
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who are unemployed, that they may find employment.
I was reflecting on my life today. I guess I do that quite a bit. I was thinking about how there was a time when I had all the confidence in the world because I didn't know any better.
After being beaten and bruised a bit, I don't have the same confidence because of the experience. It was a great reflection back on my life on how God allowed me to be humbled so that ultimately, in the end, I can get to know myself better. In knowing myself better, I realized how much I need to rely on Him.
I could never go back to living life with that blind confidence. Rather, I take with me a renewed confidence. It's one that is in my Lord and my God versus one that relies solely on me. That is a blessing!
I've always had a hard time comprehending why this parable was paired with Jesus' disciples fasting, but everything I hear the parable, I am reminded that God is continually making me new through various trials and blessings. While I am still made of the same substance, it is in God's transforming power that I am new. It is in His abundant mercy that I am forgiven. It is in His love that I am restored.
No matter where you have been, my brother ... my sister ... know and trust in His ways and His mercy. Take care and God Bless.
