John 20: 11-18

Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the Body of Jesus had been. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" She thought it was the gardener and said to him, "Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni," which means Teacher. Jesus said to her, "Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and then reported what he told her.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to the use of contraception and for an increase in married couples using NFP.

There are many stories that have become associated with Mary Magdalene over the years. There are stories that point to other stories being untrue. But, there is one thing we are sure of regarding Mary Magdalene: she needed Jesus. The image of her weeping at the tomb shows her great love for Our Savior and her devoutness to Our Savior.

It was Mary Magdalene who was chosen to be the first to proclaim that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead; a gift given to her because of her great love of Christ. When we look at Mary Magdalene, we see a model for all of us in regards to how we are to love Jesus. Even when Jesus is in the tomb, she is there. Her desire was to be with Christ and Christ alone, and our desires should be the same. Our desires should be for Christ and Christ alone. Yet, we put so many of our hopes and desires in our careers and our accomplishments. We see the fruits of this all around. We choose to kill life for the sake of lifestyle sustainment. Families are broken down because parents are too consumed with living a certain lifestyle. Million dollar homes pop up abundantly as the homeless population continues to rise in number as well. Our society has forgotten Who Christ is. So, we have a reminder in Mary Magdalene of what is truly important: to love God with your whole heart, and to love your neighbor as yourself by "proclaiming the Gospel" to all. Take care and God Bless.
