Tuesday in the Fifth Week of Lent
John 8: 21-30

Jesus said to the Pharisees: "I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come." So the Jews said, "He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, 'Where I am going you cannot come'?" He said to them, "You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins." So they said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "What I told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you in condemnation. But the one who sent me is true, and what I heard from him I tell the world." They did not realize that he was speaking to them of the Father. So Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM, and that I do nothing on my own, but I say only what the Father taught me. The one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to him." Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who will be in surgery today.

"You will realize that I AM ... "

Jesus pointed to the Father and to the will of the Father. In that, many came to believe. He spoke this prior to His participation and fulfillment of the Father's will.

What about our lives today? Aren't we in waiting and anticipation? There is the earthly waiting, such as waiting for a paycheck. There is the waiting that we have in the Church, built into the liturgical seasons and the Sacraments. There is our longing for heaven.

As a child, I used to wait for Christmas. I think most children await the seasons in which they can get good gifts. It reminds me how easy it is to motivate a child to act good by promising a good gift to them. I remember it being a way in which I could feel special and a way in which I was reminded that my parents wanted me to have good things. They came through with offering a good gift.

What greater gift than the offering of the Son of God?

They will realize that Jesus is the Son of God. What more can we realize from this? We can realize that God loves us so much that He will be relentless in calling us home. We can realize that God speaks the truth, and in knowing this, we should seek His truth. We can realize that there are people that are waiting but don't know Who they are waiting for.

Jesus pointed to the Father and to the will of the Father. In that, many came to believe. How are we pointing to the Father and to the will of the Father Who offered His Son as an offering ... as an act of love? Take care and God Bless.
