Monday in the First Week in Advent
Isaiah 2:1-5

This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz, saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

In days to come,
The mountain of the LORD's house
shall be established as the highest mountain
and raised above the hills.
All nations shall stream toward it;
many peoples shall come and say:
"Come, let us climb the LORD's mountain,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
That he may instruct us in his ways,
and we may walk in his paths."
For from Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
and impose terms on many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks;
One nation shall not raise the sword against another,
nor shall they train for war again.

O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD!

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for this Advent season, that it will bring many closer to Christ, especially those whose hearts have been hardended against God's word.

I love today's reading and how it invokes thoughts of "ascending" to The Lord.

There's a popular hiking spot in Phoenix called "Squaw Peak." When I was a lot healthier, I used to hike the mountain a few times a week. The hardest part of the hike is the last few hundred feet (I think) where you can see the end, but it's a steep climb to get there. All the way there, the hike is a little easier.

It used to be a very spiritual time for me hiking because I would contemplate Christ carrying His cross as I hiked up the mountain. It's also a good allegory for our own faith journey. It is a rough climb to heaven that will demand a lot from us. The hardest part of our own faith journey may still be ahead, so we must never lose the desire to be in heaven, and rejoice in the struggle that calls us to be "healthier" in The Lord. Take care and God Bless.
