Mark 12: 13-17
Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech. They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person’s status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?" Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at." They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's." So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." They were utterly amazed at him.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for the grace to take up the sacrifice God desires of us in this upcoming Lenten season.
On that day when we will stand before Our Lord, one of the hopes I have is that I know that I loved Him with a sincere heart. I hope to see the face of God.
I hope that I truly lived a life of humility, knowing Who He is and allowing Him to be. I hope that I lived a life that didn't hide my sinfulness behind a poster-board of good works and false piety. I hope that I didn't withhold the truth because of consequences I didn't think I could handle on my own. I hope that I lived a life of freedom versus a life that tried to impress, tried to prove that I was right, or tried to prove that I was good.
I hope that I knew ... I mean, truly KNEW ... that because I was created by God, I am good. I hope that this created person can be a complete and selfless offering to God, for I bear His image.
I hope that others will do more than merely encounter His image and likeness in me, for I was already created that way. I hope that others will know Him through my accepting the dignity of being made in His image and likeness, and therefore living a life in communion with Him.
In living a life in communion with Him, I hope that I will have the inheritance of spending an eternity with Him. Take care and God Bless.
