Luke 6:36-38
Jesus said to his disciples: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
"Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the uncle of a friend of mine who is battling cancer.
Maybe it's human tendency that wants to hold onto things. Material things. Past hurts. Judgments.
Maybe that human tendency is fear. Fear that we won't have enough or fear that we would be seen as less than others because we don't have enough. Fear of admitting that we've been hurt by someone else. Fear of accepting someone else that may challenge us.
Whatever the case, we know Christ's words today that reminds us to "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." Letting go of things and dying to yourself gives us the freedom to be merciful. In fact, being merciful frees us to live our calling to be who God made each of us to be.
What are you holding on to that doesn't allow you to be merciful? What are you holding on to that doesn't allow you to be free? Take care and God Bless.
