Luke 13:18-21
Jesus said, "What is the Kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches."
Again he said, "To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a teen I heard about who committed suicide and for all teens who are going through a hard time, that they have Christ as their hope.
I hate going to Las Vegas. There are so many things that compete for your attention: huge billboards of "almost" naked women, gaudy replicas of ancient and modern architecture, and just everyone vying for your attention.
Down the strip, there is Cathedral that is dwarfed by the large buildings.
Inside the different large structures that try to win your attention hides hopes. Thousands of people are in each building with the hope for riches. They give and give to one day attain the riches that they believe will make them happy. They give of themselves hoping to attain their idol of happiness.
Down the strip, Our Lord waits in the tabernacle. The Lord of the universe who could in a split second destroy the whole city remains quite. Those who come to receive Him find peace in receiving Our Lord Who gives Himself to us freely, totally, faithfully and fruitfully.
They find their hope in Him Who became like us so that we could be free. Hopefully free of the false hopes we carry: having the perfect spouse, having the riches that they "think" will win them freedom, or being recognized as a "popular" person. They know that this freedom is still growing in them like the mustard seed.
Those who walk in and out of the doors of The Cathedral are on different levels. Most are torn between the hopes of heaven and the hopes of earth. They all struggle.
Las Vegas, translated from Spanish to English, means "The Fertile Valleys." We all live in "fertile valleys." Each of us live in war-zones torn between the hopes of heaven and earth because the battle continues. Let us continue to be "fertile soil" for the mustard seed of heaven and pray that Our Lord can remove the "weeds of idols" from our lives. Take care and God Bless.
