Luke 9:22-25
Jesus said to his disciples: "The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised."
Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?"
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a girl I heard about who passed away December 22nd from cancer after being such a strong inspiration to the neice of a friend of mine.
During the initial call of the disciples, Jesus merely said "Follow Me" and they came. When I read today's reading, I was reminded of that and then I thought that Christ was adding to His initial call.
The thing was, today's call of "deny yourself, take up your cross" added to the initial call "follow me" always existed in the initial call. When we give our "yes" to Christ, we are also saying that we will "deny ourselves and take up our cross." We can see this yes in the "I do" of marriage: we may not know what we will be going through or how much of ourselves we will have to give up. Yet, the sacrifice given is worth the joy.
Your "yes" to Christ will always be challenged by the evil one. Deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him. Take care and God Bless.
