1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6, 9-11
Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him. Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who are preparing for the sacrament of marriage.
Sometimes, it's hard to stay awake. Just ask the disciples Jesus chose to stay with Him as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. There are times when we hear the calling to slip, and sometimes that little temptation seems so harmless yet so good. We all have our vices we must overcome, and we all have temptations that pull us away from the light because we lack the trust in Our Lord (note: I did not say "discipline") that He loves us.
Beyond this, it is so easy to accept so many of the things we know are wrong because we fear not being accepted by society. Let's face it: we all want to be accepted in some way or another. We all do little things to help us get noticed by society. We all want someone to notice us, and it's so hard to point to God because we feel the need to be loved and accepted. We are extremely insecure when it comes to knowing that God loves us. We are all insecure with being children of the Light.
I know that it's hard to stay awake. I'm sure that you can come up with a list that can verify this. The point is that we must continue to strive for the greatness we are created for. We must constantly challenge one another and "encourage one another" to be faithful and obedient servants of The Lord, as St. Paul challenges us today. We must continue trusting in The Lord and we must stay rooted in prayer.
You are a child of God... the most wonderful Creation in the whole created universe. Live a life worthy of The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. Take care and God Bless.
