John 16:20-23
Jesus said to his disciples: "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for seminarians and for those awaiting word on their discernment.
I have been fortunate enough to be in the delivery room when a mother sees her child for the first time. I have stood in awe of women who endured the pains of labor and stood in joy as they held their child for the first time.
One day we will all share in that joy. There is no way that we can escape pain, but all pain can be endured knowing the reward. When we try to escape the pain, we lose sight of Christ who also knew pain. Look at the martyrs. Look at the saints who endured ridicule and torture. Look at those who endured great temptations. All these things could be said about Christ. The saints endured a part of Christ's suffering, and we, as saints, are called to do the same.
May the peace of Christ protect you in your trials. Take care and God Bless.
