Thursday in the Octave of Christmas
1 John 2:12-17

I am writing to you, children,
because your sins have been forgiven for his name's sake.

I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men,
because you have conquered the Evil One.

I write to you, children,
because you know the Father.

I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
because you are strong and the word of God remains in you,
and you have conquered the Evil One.

Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world. Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for a safe New Year's Eve for all of you, your family and your friends.

"The Christian community that has experienced the grace of God through forgiveness of sin and knowledge of Christ is armed against the evil one." - New American Bible commentary on today's reading

Sin entered the world through a lie: God does not love you. Jesus entered into the world to show us that God loves you. The degrees of separation may seem like a whole world away, but unfortunately, it seems more like a hairline away. The Truth is the only thing that keeps us from this hairline-thin border. Jesus is who keeps us from crossing this thin line into sin.

This is why it is important to remain faithful to the sacraments, and especially reconciliation and The Most Holy Eucharist. Love Jesus first, above all things. Receive Him in The Most Holy Eucharist. Receive His mercy in the sacrament of reconciliation. Adore Him in adoration chapels around the world. Remain faithful to the sacraments and you remain faithful to Christ. Take care and God Bless.
