Thursday in the Third Week of Easter |
John 6:44-51
Jesus said to the crowds: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets:
They shall all be taught by God.
Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the Castillo family.
What if I told you that they discovered a type of berry that could cure cancer, regulate your blood sugar, and burn excess fat. I'd imagine that the lines to the store would be a lot longer than the lines of those who desire to receive Jesus in His True Body and Blood.
Christ offers us so much more than the world wants us to desire, nobody cares. We are living in a culture where children are being killed because they're an inconvenience, so why should we care about "life" over "quality of life?" Tell someone about a great restaurant and people will be calling to make a reservation. Tell someone that Jesus is truly present and you can fully receive Him Who invites us all to share eternal life with Him and they're more apt to "think about it."
Have we been conditioned to think this way? Have we been conditioned to be comfortable in this life so that we don't strive for the next? Have we been conditioned to be too comfortable to desire the "hard work" it takes to pursue holiness?
What are we afraid of? People would rather eat the berry than put in the time to excercise. People would rather change values than change lifestyles. If you're brave enough to follow the path of Christ, I pray that you will be consoled by the loving arms of Jesus for your sacrifice and your example. If you are not brave enough, know that Christ invites you to receive Him so that you may receive all graces you need to pursue eternal life. Take care and God Bless.
