Matthew 7:15-20
Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the soul of Charlie, and for comfort for those who mourn his loss.
If I wanted to become a false prophet, I would choose this era be a false prophet in. Think about all the means I could use to spread my message: internet (Web sites, portals, YouTube videos, etc), television (imagine all those I could tempt in the "middle of night" infomercial), radio (of course, I would need some catchy Web site name to direct people to the Web site). I would choose today.
On the opposite end of that, as someone who desires to be holy, I have to make sure that I guard what I let in. Today's false prophets don't need gather people together for meetings. Today's false prophets don't need to be in the town square. In today's world, today's false prophets are right in our own homes, in our cars, at our jobs.
Today's false prophets tell us that we don't need God, and that our dignity comes from within. Today's false prophets tell us that it is better to NOT be our brother's keeper. Today's false prophets tell us that it's okay to use one another instead of loving one another.
You won't hear them come out and say that directly. They'll tell you that the use of contraception is "responsible" (versus saying that you reduce your dignity and the dignity of the other person to that of an object to be used). They'll tell you that the image of who you are is wrapped up in "what's inside" (versus saying that your dignity and who you are as a person is found in The One Who knit you in the womb of your mother, and that the more we know Him, the more we know ourselves). They'll tell you many things to get you to turn your eyes and hearts away from God.
Let us then be true prophets, who turn others eyes and hearts to Our Most Beautiful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Take care and God Bless.
