Mark 2:23-28
As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. At this the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?" He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?" Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who endure persecution for The Gospel, that they may find comfort in God alone.
"The sabbath was made for man: a reaffirmation of the divine intent of the sabbath to benefit Israel as contrasted with the restrictive Pharisaic tradition added to the law."
- New American Bible Commentary
We must always be mindful that God does not give us commands to restrict us, but rather to be able to live in freedom to love and serve Him. It is in serving Him alone that can truly become who we are, and we can only do this through being obedient to Him alone.
As we continue to struggle with our own sinfulness and our own desires, we must always keep in mind that God will never force His will upon us. Therefore, it is your responsibility alone to choose to follow God's law with the desire for holiness and self-realization. You are God's child, and He gives us laws to help us remember how we are to love. Take care and God Bless.
