Luke 11: 34-41
After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal. The Lord said to him, "Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for an increase in artistic expression to reveal the truth of God.
There is a lot of money to be made on making the exterior beautiful.Think of all the diet and exercise plans that are more about the appearance versus truly living healthy. Think of the different cosmetic surgeries that are available today. There is an extreme obsession with the outward, so much so that there are disorders coming from these obsessions.
Over 10 years ago, I decided to try one of these diets: the Atkins diet, where you deprive yourself of carbohydrates in order to lose weight. You can eat whatever you want besides carbs.
I was able to lose weight on it, but the moment I introduced carbohydrates, I started to put the weight back on. So much so that within a matter of months, I was actually heavier than when I started.
The problem was interiorly. I didn't change the sinful thought process of gluttony. I had an obsession to eat for the sake of eating versus seeing that food is a blessing in order to keep us nourished. I was disordered in my way of thinking, and thankfully, through prayer and sacrifice, I have been able to keep the role of what food is in perspective.
Outwardly, we may be able to see what needs to be cleansed from the inside. Maybe your home is filled with an abundance of things. Maybe you don't have a community of friends and family who supports you on your faith journey. Maybe you are having a hard time with a particular sin that cannot seem to go away. Give it over as alms to God and allow Him to cleanse your interior through the sacraments.
Let us rejoice in Our Merciful Lord, the Divine Healer. Take care and God Bless.
