Luke 13: 22-30

Jesus passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few people be saved?" He answered them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough. After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, "Lord, open the door for us." He will say to you in reply, "I do not know where you are from." And you will say, "We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets." Then he will say to you, "I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!" And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out. And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the Kingdom of God. For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention - for art to point to the true beauty of God.

A few years ago, it was the presidential election here in the United States. It was Barack Obama versus John McCain. I got to my election area early in the morning, and the place was swarming with media people. I was even interviewed while I was waiting in line. It was a strange sight because I have never seen so many people from the media there ever.

A few hours later, I was watching the news and I was told that John McCain was there to cast his vote. I never realized that he lived right up the street from me. In fact, later that night, my neighbor pointed to the penthouse that he and his wife lived in.

Something tells me that if I were to come and knock on his door, he wouldn't welcome me in as he would a close friend or a family member. In fact, he may call security. Now, I could tell him that I watched the debates and that I knew where he stood on certain policies. I could even compliment him on things that I heard through the media, but the fact remains that he doesn't know me. Why would he let me in?

Yet, what if he came down to my humble condo and did his best to make himself known to me? Wouldn't I feel honored?

As Jesus invites us to enter through the narrow gate, let us keep what an honor it is to be invited. In the invitation, there seems to be a lot that doesn't seem very honorable such as humility, obedience, the acceptance of suffering. Yet, God affirms you and recognizes that you can share in His work ... you can share in His suffering ... and in the end, you can share in His glory.

Take care and God Bless.
