Luke 9: 7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, "John has been raised from the dead"; others were saying, "Elijah has appeared"; still others, "One of the ancient prophets has arisen." But Herod said, "John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?" And he kept trying to see him.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for Reagan, a two year old who hit her head very hard and is now having seizures.
John the Baptist spoke the truth, but he wasn't Truth. When Herodias asked for the head of John the Baptist, I wonder if he thought that with him dead, her unethical relationship with Herod would no longer be under scrutiny.
Although John the Baptist spoke the truth, Truth did not die with his beheading.
Sometimes, when we don't want to hear the truth, we may avoid the person who is telling us the error of our ways, or we may choose to steer conversations away from the large white elephant in the middle of your conscience. Thankfully, the Truth is Jesus Christ, Who conquered death.
If Jesus Christ is The Truth, then why are we so afraid to speak it? Do we fear the scourging of our pride? Do we fear the crown of thorns piercing our desire to feel accepted? Do we fear being crucified as an "out of touch" Christian? Christ endured these things for us, and modeled for us the way we are to follow. Isn't it enough to know that we are striving for acceptance into the Kingdom of Heaven? Isn't it enough to know that while we may not be in touch with the norms of this world, we are in touch with the ways of Our Lord?
Let us not fear the Truth, but rather rejoice in any persecution we may receive in offering it. Rejoice if you are worthy to receive persecution knowing that we are in union with Christ when we are.
Take care and God Bless.
