Matthew 5:38-42
Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a restoration of the dignity of fatherhood.
What does it mean to forgive someone?
When it comes to forgiving someone, I don't often take the measures that Christ offers today. In fact, so many times I even go so far as to inject pride into it by saying to myself, "well, I know I'm right anyway, but hey, I'm just going to look better because I'm telling you I forgive you."
Christ's forgiveness took Him to the cross. How is that for walking two miles. He gives us more than His cloak; He gives us the way to Heaven.
That's what we should be about. In our service and forgiveness to one another, let it be more about the dignity of the other person versus our own inner pride. In this way, we can learn to do more than say, "I'm sorry"... we can learn what it means to love.
Take care and God Bless.
