Luke 12: 13-21

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me." He replied to him, "Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?" Then he said to the crowd, "Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one's life does not consist of possessions."

Then he told them a parable. "There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, "What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?" And he said, "This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, "Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!"" But God said to him, "You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?" Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Deacon Tom Bills.

It is hard to let go of the things of this world. When having a great meal, it's hard not to think about going back to that restaurant to try something different.

This past August, I was up in northern California, I had a chance to go to a guitar festival where they had all the best guitars in the world there. Custom guitar builders from all over the world were there displaying their innovations and the prettiest designs that they could imagine.

While I was there, I had a chance to listen to different people of different skill levels play guitars that cost a tremendous amount of money. A lot of guitars there cost more than most new cars!

As I listened to them play the guitars, I heard a lot of different styles at a lot of different skill levels. It was amazing to hear some of the great players.

You would think that the end result of someone wanting to play the guitar would be that: playing the guitar. One thing that I noticed, though, was that there were those who appreciated the art of the guitar and appreciated the tone, but couldn't articulate the guitar as well as others could.

The one thing about the people who could play exceptionally well was that they could do it on any guitar that they were given. It seemed that even on guitars that were less than stellar, they were able to coax a sound that could move you as a listener.

Isn't that something that we should strive to do: live a life so in sync with Our Lord that it moves those who see you. The great players could coax a moving sound out of any guitar. I wonder if the great Saints could move others out of any circumstance in life? If so, is it because they knew of the life that is beyond this life where we must guard against greed? Is it because they knew of a God that is beyond the everyday struggles?

Are they living lives that are beyond this world, and in doing so, showing that there is a heaven to hope for?

Let us rejoice in Christ, Who opened the gates of heaven for us! Take care and God Bless.
