Mark 9: 30-37
Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee, but he did not wish anyone to know about it. He was teaching his disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be handed over to men and they will kill him, and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise." But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to question him.
They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" But they remained silent. For they had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all." Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, "Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for strength for your Lenten sacrifice.
My dad used to work two jobs. He would work at lunch as a carver at one of the local buffets. From there, he would head over to the can plant where he worked overnight. He normally got home just in time to bring me to school.
There were some days when he would bring me to school, and then he would sleep in the car until it was time for me to go. He would get his sleep in there just before he was back to carving prime rib for lunch.
When you're a child, you don't know about the sacrifices that your parents make in order to make sure that you have enough food to eat. All I remember was that we had food.
He was a servant in a unique way. In this way, I see him as great. He wasn't a well-known musician or actor. He never held public office. He doesn't drive an expensive car.
In appreciating greatness in the sacrifices that my dad made for me, I can appreciate the sacrifices of Our Lord and how His sacrifice was truly great. I can also understand the disposition I should take when it comes to Our Lord: I may not know what is going on, but I trust that God is doing something great.
Let us go forth, then, and do something great for Our Lord by embracing sacrifice and humility. Take care and God Bless.
