John 15:12-17

Jesus said to his disciples: "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those in the military who are away from their families at this time, that God bring them back home safely.

In the book "The Four Loves", C.S. Lewis equates friendship as the one "most like the angels" and the one that is closest to how things will be in heaven because it is "inclusive" and rejoices when welcoming others.

God, in the Second Person of the Trinity - Jesus, calls us friends. This is a much different concept than what people are used to thinking about The Almighty God. The reference to "slaves" can be seen throughout the old testament: Moses, Joshua and David, where were called "servants" or "slaves of Yahweh."

Interestingly enough, Jesus incarnation allows us to become "friends" of Christ, and to experience love in terms of friendship. Christ's incarnation, His Passion and His Resurrection allows each of us know how God truly loves us in His humility.

In His example, we can see how we are to love one another, as he calls us to today. We too are to be humble in our interactions with one another as Christ shows us. Christ shows us an example of true friendship, and through His example, we can being living our lives "on earth as it is in Heaven." Take care and God Bless.
