Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross
John 3:13-17

Jesus said to Nicodemus: "No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who will be affected by Hurricane Ophelia, that they heed any warnings that may come their way.

Today in the Catholic Church is the "Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross"

"14 September Was celebrated in Rome before the end of the 7th century. Its purpose is to commemorate the recovering of that portion of the Holy Cross, which was preserved at Jerusalem, and which had fallen into the hands of the Persians. Emperor Heraclius recovered this precious relic and brought it back to Jerusalem, 3 May 629." - New Catholic Dictionary

I have a crucifix that's on my keyboard as a constant reminder of Christ's sacrifice. Some days I don't notice the cross sticking out of my keyboard because I'm too busy thinking about my own "cross" and complaining about it internally. Some days I happen to knock it over and I think about it being "in my way" of trying to be "productive."

Then there's those times when I'm frustrated and become hopeless and I look upon the cross. I see the image of Our Lord and His sacrifice and I cannot help but be thankful regardless of what cross I am bearing at the time.

I am thankful today for The Cross which Our Lord hung upon because it is through His sacrifice that I may choose eternal life. Blessed be God! Take care and God Bless.
