Wednesday in the Second Week of Easter |
John 3: 16-21
God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - that those who have entered the Church may be strengthened by Christ.
The Father loved us so much that He sent the Son to be beaten, scourged and killed.
It doesn't really sound like the light.
The ability to do whatever you want sounds like "light". Yet what kind of light is it? It seems as if God would rejoice if we had the freedom to love with a pure heart. It seems as if God would rejoice if we had the freedom to choose what is good with the "freedom" from fear of judgement ... from the freedom of being "beaten, scourged, and killed."
Yet, we can't help it. I know that I prefer the "darkness" within myself. I know that I struggle with the "freedom" to want an extra slice of pizza when I'm already full. I know that I struggle with the "freedom" to withhold forgiveness for my neighbor.
Light and darkness seem like a paradox.
Christ, in His example, in His sacrifice, and in His Person, is the "Living Water" through Whom the paradox is cleansed ... through Whom I am cleansed and redeemed. He had the freedom to be "beaten, scourged, and killed".
I desire that freedom. I desire that detachment from the things that hold me back from loving completely. I desire the gift of being indifferent to fear.
Lord, it is You Who tell us that anything we ask in Your name, You will do.
With full confidence and trust, I humbly ask for the freedom that You give.
I have lived too long in the freedom that embraces the darkness.
Please give me the freedom that can only come from You.
I ask this in Your Most Holy Name. Amen.
Take care and God Bless.
