John 13:16-20
When Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them: "Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it. I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me. From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the father-in-law of a friend of mine who is sick and they don't know what's going on.
Alright, how many of you have holding out on me? How many of you knew about this little beatitude found within today's reading: "If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it."
Christianity is not meant for the passive. Christ could have snapped His fingers and told the disciples, "you need to serve." God, in His great love, does not take our free will from us. Instead, He gives us an example of how we are to act as Christians. We are all called to love and serve Our Lord, with full obedience to His will. We are all called to love and serve each other as Christ shows us in today's reading by washing their feet. Love is not passive, and neither is our faith. Take care and God Bless.
