Feast of St. Matthew
Matthew 9: 9-13

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those in your family who pray will hear God's calling.

It is a blessing to know that I am a sinner, because I know that I need God's grace. Although I don't want to be told that I'm wrong, or that I'm weak, I know that it is what has brought me that longing for God.

If only the Pharisees could see that they were weak as well. If they could see that, they would know God's mercy. Jesus says that He desires mercy; His sacrifice was His mercy to us! How wonderful is Our Lord to us!

Christ suffered, and through His passion, we can share in that suffering. Through His death on the cross, we can share in His mercy! We can participate in the mercy we received on the cross. What a tragedy, then, when we are told that our sins are not sins. How many beautiful offerings have been lost because of the disordered "tolerance" we are fed in today's society. How many souls could have been saved if being nice meant telling the truth.

It worked for St. Matthew.

Take care and God Bless.
