Wednesday in the Second Week of Easter |
John 3: 16 - 21
God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
And this is the verdict,
that the light came into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light,
because their works were evil.
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light
and does not come toward the light,
so that his works might not be exposed.
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,
so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for strength and wisdom for Pope Benedict XVI.
There was a time when I was swimming in the ocean and I got hit by a wave that made me lose control of everything. As I tumbled around in the water, I kept praying, "Lord, just please get me to the shore." Well, I'm here typing this out, so I'm sure you know what happened.
In that moment, I knew that I needed to be saved.
We all are united in our own need to be saved. Although we aren't tumbling around in the ocean, we are being tossed about by a wave of temptations and the undertow of our own shorcomings. God wants to save us, which means we need to be saved.
It's hard to see that when you're striving so hard to show people how much you have things together. It's also hard to see when you're looking toward the ways of the world as whom you want to imitate versus imitating Christ. It's easy to feel virtuous when you choose to be around those who do not strive for virtue.
It's a wonder that we don't cry out to God every moment of our lives, but the evil one is great at making us feel comfortable and complacent. Yet, Christ is there at every moment of our lives, ready to pull us from the rough waters of our doubt and our sin. Praise God!
Take care and God Bless.
