Matthew 13:44-46
Jesus said to his disciples: "The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
As it stands, it's 1 am in the morning right now. I was at a friend's house talking about an upcoming retreat we're working on as well just catching up. It was a good time of fellowship.
It is something that I know won't hit me until mid-afternoon tomorrow. Around that time, I realize the cost of the sacrifice in being able to vent as well as being there to listen to him vent.
There are tradeoffs to the things that we desire.
Desiring the kingdom of heaven may mean sacrificing friends and even our family. The same desire may mean risking getting fired over not providing contraception. The same desire may mean giving your life.
That same desire in me hasn't always been steady, but the desire was there. It waned because of the things I desired more than the kingdom.
The pearl was not purchased on credit. The pearl was not financed for 0% down. It took a great price, and God is encouraging us today that we should not be afraid of the sticker price. The sticker price is how much we need offer in order that He may increase. Take care and God Bless.
