Luke 14: 12-14

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees. He said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those you know of who have passed away this past year, and especially for John S., who passed away this past Thursday in the adoration chapel at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The focus of today's reading challenges us to love one another versus use one another.

When we look at someone, its easy to see what we can get from them, whether they're rich, attractive or they just have the right connections (in order to get to the person who is rich or attractive). We live in a society that feeds on how you look (for women) and what you do (for men) and we all play the game. We all look at others in a light that is distorted through lies. I have been very guilty of this, and I know many of you who struggle with the same thing.

Today's reading challenges us to truly love one another. Christ gave His life to us without asking us for anything. He just loved us. We are called to do the same. We are called to give of ourselves, sacrificing all the things that we desire, for the sake of The Kingdom of God. The reward that we seek should not be the pleasures we want, but the joy that can only come from God alone. Take care and God Bless.
