Luke 9: 22-25
Jesus said to his disciples: "The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised."
Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?"
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a friend of mine who is having outpatient surgery, that everything goes well.
Sometimes, we can become prideful in the way we follow Christ in our own prayer lives.
The true follower of Christ does not pray because he feels he is better than someone else. True follower of Christ does not seek the attention of others through thinking about how holy he is.
The true follower of Christ desires to be with Christ above all other things. This goes beyond the petty pride of false humility and piety.
During the Ash Wednesday fast yesterday, it has become a "prideful" sacrifice versus a "prayerful" sacrifice. The fast became more about how "I can do it" versus "I need Him." Satan will use any tactic to pull you away from God, including prayer and fasting. In knowing how good prayer and fasting is, we can see how Satan can take anything of good and use our desires to turn us away from God.
So, we have today's reading which calls us to "deny" ourselves in order to follow Christ. If Satan can take any desire and twist it, we would be wise to surrender all our desires to God and trust in Him alone. Take care and God Bless.
