Luke 11:1-4
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a peaceful resolution for the nuclear threats from North Korea.
As St. Therese puts it, prayer is "lifting the heart and the mind to God." When Jesus, Who knows The Father, tells His disciples how to pray, He reveals a prayer that pleases The Father.
Through God's grace, we have this prayer 2000 years later, revealing the desires of The Father to His children. I also like to think of it as revealing what's at the core of our hearts beyond the stain of sin. After all, He created us and through Jesus Christ, He wants us to be free.
I was away on business this past Monday and Tuesday and on the drive back, I had the opportunity to pray "The Our Father" numerous times through praying The Rosary. As I was driving, I noticed that my tendency was to quickly recite through the prayer and not think about what I was praying. I had to stop myself a few times and restart.
As we pray the prayer that lifts our hearts and minds to God, let us remember that the words that we are praying are the words Christ gave us, and in remembering, recall God's great love for us and His desire that we are free to worship Him. Take care and God Bless.
