Mark 1: 7-11
This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those you know who are in need of healing.
Parents are great at reminding you about things. Every time my father gets off of the phone with me, he reminds me to "drive extra careful and keep smiling." I know why he tells me this often: historically I have made some poor driving decisions and he knows that I can get easily frustrated with myself.
I wonder about today's reading. After all, Jesus must have known that He is the Son of God. Knowing this, this declaration is rather a gift to us. The affirmation of Christ is our gift.
"Jesus, You are the beloved Son of God; with you the Father is well pleased!"
In a way, in the same way that Jesus shows us how to pray with the Father, the Father shows us how to praise the Son. What a wonderful exchange that we are invited to participate in! We have the words Christ gives us in order to pray to the Father; we have the words that the Father uses to praise the Son.
We are participants in this exchange of affirmation! We are participants in this exchange of love! We are participants through the love that is the third Person who burst forth from the love exchanged between the Father and the Son!
As the words we read are a tangible and outward disposition to Our Lord, may our inward disposition, and thus our actions, be a continued participation in this exchange of love.
Take care and God Bless.
