Luke 12: 49-53
Jesus said to his disciples: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for more inspired artists, writers and musicians who are willing to proclaim the Gospel message to this world without shame.
Is it greater to love than to be loved?
We all want to be loved. We all need to be loved. We must understand, though, that sin entered this world because Satan spoke a lie and told Eve that God does not love her.
We first learn about love through our parents, and parents grow in love through their children. Through this love, we know what it is like to be loved. Through Christ death and resurrection, we have been given a greater opportunity to love because, just as our parents have shown us how to love, Christ shows us a greater way that this world cannot understand. The world has a hard time understanding sacrifice because, through original sin, fear says that God does not love you, and therefore you must provide for yourself today. The world has a hard time understanding obedience, and we can go on and on. Jesus is not saying that your family is bad. Rather, today's reading reminds us that we are not called to be loved by our family. Instead, we are called to love God, our families, our friends and our enemies. Our faith is active versus passive and we must be willing to go beyond our fears and love. Take care and God Bless.
