Matthew 5: 38-42
Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those who are struggling with addictions.
This past Sunday night, Lebron James and the Miami Heat lost the NBA finals.
It is interesting to see numerous articles about the person who lost ... the person that people hated ... the person who was the enemy. I was caught up in the root against Lebron crowd as well.
A day after the game, it seems like people would rather rejoice in a man losing versus celebrating a team winning. It seems like people would rather continue to wish ill will on a man versus recognizing the efforts put forth by the competitors.
What separates us from the pagans is that we know that we recognize that every person has a dignity in being created by God. In our loving God, how can we not, then, desire good for His people. Without God, it is easy to see how more children can seem like a obstacle to living a "better life". Without God, it is easy to see how a man who has done so much evil, such as an Osama Bin Laden, could looked at as deserving no mercy. Without God, it is easy to desire evil for a man who we perceive as a spoiled celebrity or sports star.
We are different from the pagans. We believe in God, and we believe that God created each and every human person.
Let us praise the God Who is perfect through our own imperfections and through the imperfections of others. Take care and God Bless.
