Friday in the Third Week of Easter
John 6: 52-59

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his Flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an end to the "Reproductive Health Bill" in the Philippines.

For as much as I want to fully understand Christ's teaching on the Eucharist, ultimately it is still a great mystery to me.

What I do know is that God loves us infinitely, and as such, if He desires that we consume His Body and His Blood, so much so that it means life ... eternal life ... then why should I question it?

In John 6, Jesus reiterates the point so much so. How can I not receive this beautiful teaching? How can I not receive His Body and Blood, an act of love from Our Beloved?

I have been blessed in that somehow I always sensed that it was Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. When I was a senior in high school, coming back to the Church, I would close my eyes and bow during the consecration. I did it originally because it seemed like it was a great way to enter into the consecration (eyes open / just bread and wine ... close eyes ... eyes open back up / now Jesus!)

I am not a scholar to where I can break down the text of the Bread of Life Discourse. What I can tell you is that I am okay with being selfish and allowing God to love me. He can do it all He wants ... I will receive His love. In receiving His love, I will receive His teaching ... in receiving His teaching, how can I not receive His Body and His Blood.

Take care and God Bless.
