Matthew 5: 17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who preach the Gospel message in hostile lands.

Who does Jesus call the "greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?" Those who obey and teach the commandments of God.

Those Who Obey

Greatness has nothing to do with how great your are. Greatness has everything to do with how great God is and how we are all not God. We are all weak and fallen creatures who are struggling just to get by with God's grace. We live in a time when we think that we are so enlightened that we forget what true enlightenment is: obedience to God. In fact, it is the only true option we have.

God's commandments were given to us because of the simple fact that we are not God. Most of the time, we want to believe that we are. I'm sure we have all struggled with pride. The only way we will overcome pride is through obedience to God's merciful laws.

Being great is not a matter of pride; being great is a matter of true wisdom: obedience to the commands of the Lord.

Those Who Teach

For as weak and fallen as we are, we must always remember that we are also truly beautiful creations of God. We are made in the image and likeness of God, and Christ came into this world so that we can be with God in the Kingdom of heaven. Do you truly believe this?

If you truly believe this, then go forth and preach the Gospel message. If God has transformed your life, the best thing that you can do is show others how God has transformed your life. I know that most of you do.

I want you do something for God today. God is always the initiator of love, and in receiving God's love, we have the capacity to love. You know that you know someone who is struggling. I want you to show them that you love them. I want you to remind those who are struggling how much God loves them. I was talking to someone about ministry, and I told them that one of the greatest lessons I learned while I was at Maggie's Place is that ministry is not about how much you can love someone; it's about how much God loves us. I want to challenge you today to be a minister of God's love to someone who needs to be ministered to.

Obey God's commandments. Teach others the goodness of God's commandments. Through obedience and teaching, we live out true greatness, for our lives were not meant for us; our lives were meant for God. Take care and God Bless.
