Matthew 19:16-22

A young man approached Jesus and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?" He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." He asked him, "Which ones?" And Jesus replied, "You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are pursuing religious vocations.

It is one thing to follow commandments; it is another thing to love and trust in God alone.

There are many people who have been called to give up much for the sake of The Kingdom. The way of perfection is tough, and this is why there are many who have turned away from their own vocation. Most people think of those who turn away from religious and priestly vocations, and we must continue to pray that more people are willing to give their "yes" to following Christ in the way of perfection in following their vocation.

The vocation crisis is everywhere we look, from the shortages in priests to the growing number of single parent families through divorce or lack of courage. Christ's calling to perfection is being turned down more and more everyday. In our own lives, we must constantly strive to submit our will to that of Our Lord's and trust that His calling is the way of perfection in each of our lives. In this way, our own obedience will challenge others to discern their own vocations, and challenge others to grow in obedience without fear. Take care and God Bless.
