Matthew 5:17-19
Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the soul of Anna Quintenz and for comfort for her family.
Anna was one of the warmest, most hospitable people I knew. She worked tirelessly serving the Church, from helping out with the RCIA program to cooking for the teens on retreats. It is someone like her, who radiated God's love and who humbly worked to build the kingdom of God, who makes me think of today's reading.
I know that the way I live my life needs a lot of improvement to get to what St. Francis said: "Preach the Gospel always; if necessary use words." Last night it was a great joy to pray with 2 friends who have fallen away from the Church. It was humbling, and it was joyful as they waited for me to say grace before the meal.
That's the life I want to live. For so long I have followed different paths that led me away from living a life that teaches the commandments. Rather, I went down paths for my own self-fulfillment ... especially in terms of filling a need for others which I could trick myself to think is good.
Let us strive to be great in the Kingdom of Heaven through living and preaching the paradoxical life of the Gospel. Take care and God Bless.
