Daniel 5: 22-23
"You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; you have rebelled against the Lord of heaven. You had the vessels of his temple brought before you, so that you and your nobles, your wives and your entertainers, might drink wine from them; and you praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, that neither see nor hear nor have intelligence. But the God in whose hand is your life breath and the whole course of your life, you did not glorify."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the safety of those traveling during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Today's reading is much longer than the quote today, and even talks about the fate of Belshazzar and his kingdom.
We can imagine what kind of punishment came for someone who worshiped idols and knew about it as Belshazzar did. It hit me, reading today's reading, that his "idol worship" came because he did not have a humble heart.
This fact reminds me of one of the lines in one of the Eucharistic prayers:
"You are in no need of our praise, but to praise You is a gift in itself"
That is truly humbling. This weekend, as remember what we should be thankful for, let us keep in mind that we have all things through Our Lord and through Him we should be thankful. Take care and God Bless.
