Mark 3: 31-35
The mother of Jesus and his brothers arrived at the house. Standing outside, they sent word to Jesus and called him. A crowd seated around him told him, "Your mother and your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you." But he said to them in reply, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.
Who is my mother? I know who she is as a son would know who his mother is. When I was a child, I knew my mother to be a woman who loved to cook and to bake things. I knew her as someone who worked at the hospital near by. I knew her as the someone who I would go to the market with. I knew her as a son would know her.
Jesus reveals something about His Mother. She is the one who did the will of God. She is the one who said yes to bearing Him. She is the one whose yes was a participation in the salvation of all fallen men.
My mother did a lot for me and my brothers. In fact, now that we're older, she still has the same disposition because she is still a mother. She calls every other day to make sure that everything is going alright. She is always attentive if I need anything. She is someone who I can see what it unconditional love means.
I wonder if Christ looks to us to see how we care for Him? I wonder if Christ wants us to call more than every other day? I wonder if Christ longs for us to be attentive to His needs, especially in the poor and those who have no voice? I wonder if we are called to love Him unconditionally?
It is easy to think of Christ as a powerful, but He comes in humility. He came in humility so that we can be reconciled. I wonder if part of this is to acknowledge that He is humble and that He is entrusted to our care?
Let us protect our humble Lord, then, as His mother would and as His kinsmen would. Take care and God Bless.
